Abstract:
Over the past century, computer science has revolutionized our world and how we understand it. Some of this understanding was shattered when researchers discovered that computing machines based on quantum mechanics can solve certain problems much faster than ordinary computers. We will discuss how this comes about and explore the impact of these ideas in computer science and other fields (from algorithms and cryptography all the way to black holes).
